Some of the best food stories in Los Angeles started with reinvention, and For The Win is proof. Launched in March 2020 at the height of the COVID lockdowns, this now beloved smash burger concept rose from the ashes of Papilles, a Michelin Bib Gourmand French bistro. What began as a pivot for survival quickly became one of LA’s most talked about burger spots.

The concept is simple. Do one thing and do it exceptionally well.

For The Win focuses on classic American smash burgers made with high quality beef, smashed thin on a hot griddle with grilled onions and served on a perfectly toasted Martin’s potato bun. The result is the kind of burger that delivers crispy, lacy edges and a juicy center in every bite.

The menu is intentionally tight. The Hamburger comes in at $8.80, the Cheeseburger at $9.90, and a Veggie Burger is available for $9.90. No gimmicks. No overcomplication. Just straightforward burgers done right.

But the sides deserve their own spotlight. Brussels sprouts deep fried in beef tallow have developed a cult following, offering a rich and crispy bite that feels indulgent. Loaded fries topped with grilled onions and cheese are another fan favorite, alongside sweet potato fries for those craving something slightly lighter.

To round things out, classic milkshakes in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla bring nostalgic diner vibes, while Mexican Coke adds the perfect fizzy pairing. Select locations also offer beer and wine for those looking to elevate their burger night.

With locations spanning Hollywood, Grand Central Market, Glendale, and beyond, For The Win has expanded to roughly eight spots across Southern California. Most operate daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM and feature self service kiosks in a casual, no frills setting.

In a city full of trendy food concepts, For The Win proves that a perfectly executed smash burger never goes out of style.
